This year Joan Pere Viladecans (Barcelona, 1948) is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of his first exhibition in Barcelona. After a career featuring many exhibitions, Viladecans is presenting at the Espais Volart Una mirada interior. Una mirada interior? It is a show curated by Glòria Bosch and Mercis Rossetti which criss-crosses the established boundaries between science and art in order to pose new questions regarding the demarcation between the different fields.
Putting thought before painting, the artist establishes a dialogue between language, pictorial gesture and the representation of reality, reproduced and manipulated by use of digital printing. Some of the works, done on enlarged x-rays of various areas of the body, turn syndromes, imperfections, pathologies and fractures into artistic elements which invite us to explore the depths of our bodies, as if they were crypts, so as to learn more about ourselves.
