Una mirada (A Gaze), an exhibition of work by Maria Espeus (Boras, Sweden, 1949) curated by Glòria Bosch, provides recognition for a female artist from the Fundació Vila Casas collection with a long and established career. Photographer at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, she has portrayed numerous personalities from the world of culture and politics, combining the work of photojournalist with that of creative photographer.
This exhibition on at the Palau Solterra Museum is divided into three areas which bring together some of the artist’s most outstanding series. In the Sala Xemeneia there are photographs featuring Cuba from the collection Habana (1977) and works from the series De Rerum Natura based on small items in the Barcelona botanical museum. In La Galeria, a space set aside for women, there are pictures from the series De l’ombra a la llum. Finally, in Pou i Cavallerisses, there are a set of 20 portraits from the series Hola! Barcelona (1982), bringing together personalities from the world of culture such as Carlos Santos, Carlos Pazos and Rosa Vergés.
